Covid-free islands in Cape Verde

Covid-19 continues to grip the world, with many countries having a very difficult time. However, there is some encouraging news from Cape Verde. Although the country is not Covid-free, it has recently been reported that four of the islands are. These are Sal, Boa Vista, Brava and São Nicolau.

Although cases are increasing on some other islands, such as Maio, it understood that no one on that island has died from Covid-19. In addition, the four hospital ventilators donated by the Chinese have never been needed. The climate in Cape Verde is probably one of the reasons that the virus is less virulent and fatalities are relatively low. Being able to spend so much time living outdoors being a contributory factor.

Whilst international flights into Boa Vista have not yet started, CV Connect Services (Azores Airlines) are now flying from Lisbon to Sal and Praia twice a week. There are regular internal flights from Praia to all islands with TICV. This travel page is updated regularly.
