In May 2022 we reported a change in the management of the airports in Cape Verde. We can now report that the Vinci airport management contract has now begun. The agreement was signed in July 2022 and the concession is for 40 years. Vinci is a French company and manages many airports around the world. Vinci Airports is intending to introduce an environmental action plan. This will include a programme to reduce CO2 emissions and the introduction of renewable energy sources.
Vinci will fund, operate, maintain and modernise the Cape Verde airports over the term of their contract. The company will also open new routes whilst promoting the country for tourists with its growing hospitality sector, weather and choice of sporting activities. It is still a possibility that this change may encourage some low-cost airlines to fly to Cape Verde.
